You made a good point:

There are more Android devices than iOS devices, that's true. BUT, there are more iPhones than Samsung, or there are more iPhones than (…) because the customer is buying a non-reusable product/OS.

So, there's a difference between those who build and optimise their product line and those who want to sell lower to get a more significant chunk (at the cost of user data).
