Medium has set new rules against AI-generated writings (and that’s good!)
In the past few days, I’ve been in touch with some Medium writers whom I met some time ago, and we have shared our feelings about a new set of rules that Medium has added to its Terms of Service.
Medium has sent an email to writers informing them that they won’t allow AI-generated content. They will use some (unknown) procedure to determine content falling into the AI-generated labelling, which will imply consequences for those writers.
Some of the examples that Medium has highlighted as part of an email campaign to writers include the following points:
[…] Accounts that have fully AI-generated writing […]
(↑ this is a “bad” use of AI; potential false-positive challenges ahead! ⚠️)
[…] This does not include AI writing tools such as AI outlining, or AI assisted fact, spelling, or grammar checkers […]
(↑ this is a “good” use of AI and it’s accepted — Grammary is safe here? 💭)
[…] AI-generated images must include captioning identifying them as such […]
(↑ this is an “acceptable” use of AI as far as writers label it correctly? 🤔)
