I am tired of waiting for Patreon’s customer service to solve my issue

Author’s note: I would be grateful if you could share this post with all your contacts on your social media. It is unbelievable that, as a paying customer, my issue is still open after more than three months.

Patreon updated their logo : r/logodesign

On February 9th, 2024, I reviewed my Patreon subscriptions to decide which to keep, which to cancel, and which to update to another Tier. So far, so good. Or, at least, it should be good.

However, taking that action triggered a nightmare for me as a supporter. I have been unable to use the platform since then because I lost access to all posts from that content creator, and as of today, Patreon’s customer service has failed to resolve my issue.

Let’s dive into the problem, shall we?

Let me summarise the issue. I updated one of my Patreon subscriptions, changing the amount I donate but keeping the same Tier. This seemingly innocuous decision has led to a complete halt in my support for a content creator on Patreon.

After reaching the subscription renewal date, Patreon didn’t process my payment. The content creator confirmed that their control panel showcases my updated support, but even with that evidence, I could not access any post - not a single one. So, I made the most obvious decision: contact Patreon’s customer support.

As a senior software engineer, I can confidently say that the issue lies in a bug in Patreon’s service. Despite my Tier remaining the same, my contribution amount changed, leading to unexpected behaviour on Patreon’s end. This resulted in an attempt to change a subscription Tier to the exact same Tier, which was unprocessable, ultimately corrupting the subscription.

Conclusion: Lack of proper automated testing? I bet that’s the case. Wait… Do Patreon services have automated testing? I am not so sure now…

Given this obvious issue, I have been in touch with Patreon’s customer service since February 26th, 2024, when I opened my issue, explained the problem, and attached screenshots. I got the first reply less than 2 hours later. Not bad, huh?

However, Patreon’s support service has not solved this problem so far. The (non-regular) replies I have received since then always tell me that this is a weird situation and their support team is working on solving my issue.

If a Support Team has been working on the same issue since February 26th (three and a half months), and knowing there is money involved, can we trust that Patreon is working on resolving my issue? I doubt so…

One of the latest messages I got informed me that my issue was resolved and asked me to re-link my PayPal authorisation to proceed. However, I never had a PayPal account linked to Patreon because they always charged me on my tokenised Card.

Wait… the Support Team sent me a reply that has nothing to do with my case? Yes, they “kindly asked me to ignore the last message.”

My issue is still open today, and I have been unable to access the content creator’s posts, receive regular updates, participate in polls, receive other benefits associated with my Patreon subscription, and so on.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems, either with a similar case or this inefficient customer service from their support team? Please leave your comment!
